Essential Driver Training

About Essential Driver Training EDT

Driving school - driving instructor and student drivers look at a tempo thirty Road sign, in the bacEDT is the first phase of the basic driving licence procedure enforced by the Road Safety Authority of Ireland since 4 April 2011. It has delegated implementation of this to registered ADI’s / Approved Driving Instructors it recognizes, and expects us to follow the syllabus according to the standards it has laid down.

The RSA has divided the program into three phases totalling 12 modules. Only a learner with a first licence permitting them to drive under supervision on public roads may undertake this. They may only apply for their full driving licence six months after they receive the first one.

Accordingly EDT is a leisurely affair, with ample opportunity to practice under supervision of a sponsor, and so cross over from theoretical to practical learning. The Right Driving School monitors this process, and exchanges thoughts with the sponsor through the logbook as the months pass.

We value our relationship with the Road Safety Authority as much as we take our students’ interests to heart. We do not take short cuts and we do not concertina modules, even for a competent driver entering Ireland on a temporary or permanent basis. Our job is to follow the official training program and to record everything in the logbook. This is what the law requires and what we do.

Sponsors – the licenced drivers who oversee pupil practice sessions – play a most important role in the process too. Once again, this must be written up in the logbook. The RSA does check these things. It will not allow a formal examination to continue if there is cause for suspicion.

We ask that you work with us and hear what we say. Everything that we do targets the objective of obtaining your driving licence first time round, and with the minimum fuss and bother. We will bring our side with pleasure. When you are ready to bring yours then we invite you to become a winner the Right Driving School way.
