EDT is the first phase of the basic driving licence procedure enforced by the Road Safety Authority of Ireland since 4 April 2011. It has delegated implementation of this to registered ADI’s / Approved Driving Instructors it recognizes, and expects us to follow the syllabus according to the standards it has laid down. The RSA has divided the program into three phases totalling 12 modules. Only a learner with a first licence permitting them to drive under supervision on public roads may undertake this. They may only apply for their full driving licence six months after they receive the first one. Accordingly EDT is a leisurely affair, with ample opportunity to practice under supervision of a sponsor, and so cross over from theoretical to practical learning. The Right Driving School monitors this process, and exchanges thoughts with the sponsor through the logbook as the months pass.
